10daysWinchester2015 CHALK

As part of the 10days 2015 'CHALK' Sharing Heritage Project, I am showing two artists' books which have been made in response to anglo saxon artefacts on show at the The Winchester City Museum. This biennial interdisciplinary arts platform has a varied programme all of which can be seen on the 10days website and runs until 7th November 2015.

10 days in the city festival centrepiece "Map, Plot, Plunder, Possession took place this Monday, halloween. This was a one night collaboration between artists, writers, dancers and musicians who transformed spaces with projections, landscapes, performance and installations. Visitors moved backstage and became part of the events and installations en route to different areas within the theatre.

Part of the 10 days across the city event and Umbrella, (a local creative network), is the "Creative Brooks Event" taking place in The Brooks Shopping Centre in central Winchester.  A selection of studios and artists are showcasing work which represents their studios. All members of Brassey Road Studio had work on display.  The gallery is open daily until 6 November.

The first event of the '10 days across the city" started this morning at the Discovery Centre in Winchester.  An internal wall opposite Alice Kettle's "looking forward to the past" textile work was used to create drawings by the public.  With a  theme of mapping and journeys, people thought about their own location, relationships to objects and interior spaces as well as the area between the library and theatre.  Children in particular enjoyed drawing what they could see through the external windows and collected fragments from outside to draw communally on the wall. This project will continue and be added to in successive layers until the whole "10 day" event ends on the 6 November.

Today I placed some pieces of work (from "'The Enliven Project" that I took part in earlier this year) as part of the 'questions group show', which in turn is taking place in the "10days" event,  in the internet cafe on Jewry Street,Winchester.

The majority of the"Questions Group" are film makers and photographer. They are installing their work on Wednesday 27th. As a group we try to meet once a month, one member presents their work and we ask questions! This facilitates debate and enables us to view our work from a different perspective. It's always very stimulating and engaging, especially as most of the group have a very different practice from mine.

Winchester is showcasing and celebrating it's creative community in an event called "10 days".  This will run from 28.10.11 to 6.11.11 and is being organised by Trish Bould, a tireless facilitator and supporter of our fantastic art scene in our town.

Our studio, Brassey Road Studio,  is taking part in "Creative Brooks", where we will join other local studio groups by showing examples of our work in an empty shop unit next to Costa Coffee in the Brooks Centre, central Winchester.  Other events include mapping/drawing at the Discovery Centre, a group show of work by members of the "Questions Group" at the Internet Cafe on Jewry Street as well as taking part in the launch at the Theatre Royal on the 31st of October.  All this and preparing a show for Mottisfont.....
