new work

i am really excited having just become a somewhat reluctant and hesitant owner of an iphone, but it's changed my life and is already influencing the way i work. I've got several work in progress projects involving landscape, travel and archaeology and am amassing images and sounds at a rate of knots.  it's really keeping me awake......these are some pictures I took on the way to and from wales this weekend.

This was something i saw recently at Belsay Hall in Northumberland at the "Extraordinary Measures" exhibition, it had a profound effect on me, artistically as well as physically; I had a migraine.

The piece is called 'The Garden of Unearthly Delights' by Mat Collishaw. It is a commissioned piece juxtaposing contemporary images with historical references. He's refashioned a victorian spinning wheel or zeotrope using images of imps, butterflies and snails that's mesmerising as well as cruel.

we're on a summer holiday, where emotional investments are huge. i try not to have huge expectations of returning to a place that's lodged in tinted childhood memories. In this place for a few weeks a year you can design a fantasy of a perfect life. no constraints of geography, no having to earn a living, rush to get children to school. instead potter, read for pleasure and loose the tyranny of time and become much much happier. back on the 28th august 2010

some of my inspiration....I spotted these two separately in the same week. Not only are they the same make, they make such an ideal pair. He's made in wales and is from hms panther (my nickname as a child, don't ask!) she has beautiful blue eyes with faded tinsel round her neck. they keep their love keen by being not too close!!
