new work

i am really excited having just become a somewhat reluctant and hesitant owner of an iphone, but it's changed my life and is already influencing the way i work. I've got several work in progress projects involving landscape, travel and archaeology and am amassing images and sounds at a rate of knots.  it's really keeping me awake......these are some pictures I took on the way to and from wales this weekend.

the 'forty part motet' (by Janet Cardiff) is a gem on our very own Winchester doorstep. it's a sound installation of 40 separate singing recorded voices housed in the Great Hall. Everyone should go and see it for 11 minutes of sheer sublimity.........it's beautiful, inspiring and free. Daily 10 - 5pm.

i had to get out and get some air as well as inspiration. a group of friends decided on a trip to southsea. we poured ourselves into helene's electric blue roadster and went off screaming down to albert road. so many fantastic junk/charity/antique shops and cafes, we had a ball.

An Insider's Guide to Lovely Local Things to See and Do in the UK

this is as the name suggests a lovely lovely site, not exactly art but tenously connected in that the layout is inspiring and so are the events, hopefully. Good to do something different anyway. An Insider's Guide to Lovely Local Things to See and Do in the UK

the weekend that was bestival.......what can i say? as a virgin camper and festival go-er i'd do it all again. it didn't rain, there were no tantrums and there was so much to do that really whether we wanted to sleep or not, there just wasn't time for it. as soon as you're attached to your festival wristband, all convention it seems is blown to the wind and you do what you feel at the moment. many a grown man was witnessed wearing the kind of thing (wigs, bras, makeup, hair in funny places....)that would cause a fight normally but not here. very liberating and truly inspiring. roll on the next one.

fantastic exhibition on at the moment at kensignton palace, london called 'enchanted' it's a mix between site specific fashion and art installation based on the history of the 7 princesses that have lived here. it's theatrical and engaging and we all really enjoyed it.....male, female, old and young!

it's been quite a week with overload of images, the favourite was anthropologie on regents street, london town. if there's one place that you should go if you love design, stage sets, interiors, fashion, nice smells, fantastic packaging and very well behaved staff, it's here. A close second is the wonderful libertys, never fails to disappoint....

like i said, some amazing exhibits!

I find the best way to still the nerves over the weekend, when I have a project on the go is to incorporate the family. We all went to the new Ashmolean Museum of Art & Archaelogy in Oxford today. What a fantastic place, amazing exhibits, architecture, views and in particular starirways. everyone should go........
